Green G30 Single Cylinder Sleeve Valve Engine
« on: November 12, 2015, 05:25:30 PM »
Have any of you heard of the Green G30 single cylinder sleeve valve engine? It was designed by D F Green way back in 1988
There was a short build article published in HMEM  earlier this year http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/showthread.php?t=24084.
I have attached one of the photos showing all of the finished components.

I have a complete, untouched kit: Drawings, instructions, crankcase casting all materials and fixtures which I realise I will never get round to starting in my lifetime. Is anyone interested in taking it on? I am open to offers.

Mike

Hi Mike, I don't have one of those  :embarassed:

Are you coming to the model engine swop meeting on Sunday? Would you like to bring it with you? (Or we could drop in on the way back about lunchtime :mischief:)

Looking forward to seeing you. If you could bring the castings with you  :embarassed:

Jo

P.S. We won't tell Jason, he doesn't like building engines out of castings any more he thinks they are not challenging enough  :ShakeHead:

Looks more like a mechanic's kit than a casting kit.  Haven't seen the plans or what the finished engine looks like but those don't look like raw castings

If you get no takers I'll buy it.

Bill, the photo is from the build thread.

I've been looking at the drawings and fondling a set of castings for one of these engines today  :embarassed:

It does look interesting  ;).

Hi Mike (Vixen) - did you manage to 'offload' your Green G30 kit of drawings, castings, instructions etc.?  I know it's a while ago since you originally posted, but I have only just noticed this thread.

I ask as I have a (I presume) set of original imperial drawings of the engine and am starting to machine the engine up from 'stock' as I don't have any castings or fittings, just the drawings.  It will be/is a bit of a challenge as it's a first engine build for me, so quite a learning curve; set ups, work holding, and even order of machining each part are all up for serious bouts of 'ascertaining' before, and as, I progress.  I am already on my second crankcase and front bearing extension, crankcase machined out of a aluminium cube - the first one suffered a seizure of one of the threads when the front bearing extension was tried and eventually destroyed to get it out, sorted that and nearly finished the crankcase but then tried to be a clever dick and pretty the nearly finished article only to louse it up completely instead. So, so far, have made the cylinder barrel, cylinder head, front bearing extension and internal distance piece, and the timing cover plus nearly finished the crankcase, having done all the internals and now just sorting the outside.  Progress is very slow but, lack of experience and trying not to louse things up are playing their part!

Although I do have a set of redrawn metric plans I am making my engine using the imperial plans.  I can work in either units but prefer working in 'thous' to the foreign bits of a mm, a 'thou' mean something - I was trained/brought up using 'thou', lb/sq.in, degrees F, feet and inches, lbs and ounces etc so they still are meaningful and I can more readily visualise them, whereas although happy to work in mm and metres and kg/sq.cm and degrees C if I must, and there are times when mm and metres are jolly useful to use, in reality they mean very little to my little grey cells!

Chris

PS Now having read the thread a bit more carefully I see that Jo has all the bits!
