Hello from the Pacific NorthWest...
« on: October 12, 2015, 05:52:40 AM »
I've been reading this board for some time now and thought it was time to join. I'm a member of a few other home
machinist/model engine boards and despite having a fair amount of machinist/fabricator/mechanic/engineering
experience I never fail to be amazed at the wonderful work being done with model engines!! In the last couple of
years the bug has bitten, hard, and I'm preparing my shop, and my mind, to build a little IC engine. About 3 years
ago I built a little Stuart Oscillator, something I've wanted to do since I was a boy. That's when the bug became part
of me. I remember a hit-n-miss on Granddads ranch in the '50s and was quite taken with it. My Dad was a life long
mechanic and 'maker'. He started making his own little lathe around 1930. The last he worked on it was in the late
'60s when he put the cross feed and compound dials on it. Had to make an indexer for the lathe to do that of
course! I have that lathe and treasure it.

My own shop is a mess but there's a 10K South Bend, a Benchmaster mill, a couple of bench grinders, three drill
presses and all the usual other stuff.

I look forward to learning from you folks and, hopefully, maybe contributing something if the occasion arises.

 :hi: Pete,

Sounds like you have all the tools you need to be able to make your IC engine :).

Welcome Pete!  Your name looks familiar, maybe from over at HMEM. Glad to have you join us here and will look forward to your contributions.

Hi Pete, welcome to the forum. I'd love to see a pic of your dad's lathe, it sounds most intriguing. Many of us, I'm sure, have thought about making one at some time or other, but 99.9% of the time it remains a thought. Cheers, Hugh.
