Embedding youtube videos tutorial request!
« on: July 20, 2012, 11:55:37 AM »
Hi,

I noticed that very early on in the forums life the Admin fixed up some posts with youtube video links.
How does one go about embedding a video so that the small screen shows up instead of a clickable link?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew

I'll post a quick answer for now; I'll try and write up a better one tonight after work:

The "short" Youtube URLs doesn't work
You need to use the long one (that appears in your browser address bar at the top of the screen while viewing the video, and paste that into the post.  Then highlight the pasted URL, and click on the YouTube button above the smilies:

Code: [Select]
This is a short URL that won't work:

This is the long URL copied from the browser address bar:

And after the Youtube button is clicked, it adds  opening and closing YouTube tags and looks like this:

And the results:
This is a short URL that won't work:
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGP4AaKvfnE" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGP4AaKvfnE</a>

This is the long URL copied from the browser address bar:
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGP4AaKvfnE" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGP4AaKvfnE</a>

And after the Youtube button is clicked, it adds  opening and closing YouTube tags and looks like this:
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGP4AaKvfnE" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGP4AaKvfnE</a>

Kind regards, Arnold

Procrastination is nearly the same, but it precludes machining.
Thus, an engine will only be built once the procrastination stops and the machining begins!
