I just started to think about that this morning. I may go down on Thursday afternoon, catch the monthly NEMES meeting, then spend Friday at Mystic Seaport, and Saturday at the Yankee Steam-up. That is the show that got me into this mess- in about 1987 I attended and a guy was selling a small Logan Lathe. I had always wanted a metal lathe, and his price was within my toy money.

So of course when I got it home and started to learn to use it I found it needed a lot of accessories, then I decided I needed a mill to go with it. Not long after the lathe was to small, then the mill was to small, and it has been a steady downhill slide to finding all kinds of things my shop needed.

This is a great show, with both models and BIG engines all running under steam. Its nice to see the difference in models when running under steam instead of compressed air, but be sure to clean them well when you get home, else you have a rusted mass of iron.

Stan,
This is the place I was trying to think of when I was talking to you at Coolspring. I was telling you I wanted to visit a place where there were a few stationary steam engines being steamed up (all I could say at the time was that it was northeast, and that it was called the "Steam and Something" museum). Looks like this is my chance, and an opportunity for me to vacation in a part of the country where I've never been. Still, I'll have to give it some thought over the next few days to see if it's possible. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Tim...this is a great show. The museum runs ALL of there full size steam engines and people come from all over to display their engines. The lunch is great too.

Chris,
It just so happens I am planning a New England vacation, and part of the plan is to be in East Greenwich, Rhode Island on October 3. Maybe I'll see you there.

Tim...this is great news!

I hope the New England weather is on the sunny and dry side for your visit...one day it will be sunny and the next a complete washout!

The show goes on no matter what!

The show is this weekend!

I'll be there with my newly rebuilt 1929 Maytag gas engine, Ford's first gas engine, and half-scale Quadricycle engine....as well as my Elmer's air engines!

Here's hoping for some good weather!

Hey Stan,

I'm sure they will let you set up on Friday but the air & steam tables usually don't get set up until Saturday morning. Plus the tables are outside and a tent won't go up until it rains (I usually help set up the tent and wipe the moisture off the tables Saturday morning). I know a few guys that bring there stuff on Friday but I would suggest keeping your engines in a container so they don't get wet.

The museum is full of volunteers on Thursday's...you may want to give them a call about setting up on Friday (401-885-0545).

Hopefully you make out okay...they are good people.

See you Saturday morning!

I'll be there Saturday morning. I won't be showing any engines, just enjoying the museum and the running steam engines (model and full scale).

I'm hoping to buy a t-shirt and maybe even a coffee cup.

See you fellows there!

Ok, if all you guys are coming I will too. I just booked into the Super 8 in West Greenwich for Friday night. I will try to come by the museum Friday afternoon, but I will be there early Saturday.

Thank you my M & M friends for my birthday card today. Even at 82 I enjoy making chips in my shop on models.

My son and myself plan on going to the Yankee Steam up in Rhode Island on Saturday.    Jack B
