Adapting "Firefly 46" as an opposed twin.
« on: September 11, 2015, 01:28:41 PM »
Having finished building a Firefly 46 - brilliant design and drawings Mr Whittacker.
I have always had a penchant to put together a flat twin. I thought the crankcase and
cylinder arrangements would suit. Advice on crankshaft design would be appreciated.
A fabricated crank is my first choice with an aft bearing in the back plate. The carb turned
through 90° and cylinders

Best Wishes Andy

Should work OK, I would go with a 180degree crank, I did similar (solid) when I made an opposed twin from a Nemett Jaguar. Crankcase would need stretching a bit so you can stagger the cylinders.

Yes they are a good set of drawings, I enjoyed making mine.

Nice looking engine Andy, and welcome to MEM. It would help greatly if you post and introduction and tell us a bit about yourself and your modeling interests in the "Introduce Yourself" section.
