Four-cylinder Inline Structure steam engine plan
« on: July 20, 2015, 10:25:07 AM »
This is a new challenge, I'm not sure it is a perfect machine, but it is certain that I must be able to make it work!
Cylinder unit is now and I want to fight it on the basis of a four-cylinder out. This is a big project. It needs a new crankshaft.

welcome to the forum galglgl

some very nice machining there.
a few questions if I may
looks like  quite a small engine. what size bore & stroke?
what is the purpose of the plastic block in photo's 1 & 3?
what are the brass rivets or screws on the crank webs for?

looking forward to more photos

please post an introduction and tell something about yourself - interests - machines you use etc.

welcome aboard

Hi Jin :)

Guys just a note Jins English is not great so don't be offended if he does not answer detailed questions I know he prefers to let his photos do the talking.

Hi peter, cylinder outer diameter of 13MM, crankshaft stroke 12MM, the plastic block is fixed to the crankshaft angle between the direction of the fixed copper nails.
I do not use too many tools. Only Bench drilling copper sheet laser cutting.

Jim she's looking stunning but I do have a question. I notice your exhaust porting that they are all linked together on one manifold. Do you have some sort of ball check system on this? This is an amatuer question and wouldn't that put air and cause back pressure into the other cylinders if you don't? I do realize that the exhaust is open but I am curious.

Regards Don

see your point Don but as its open to the atmos would the back pressure be significant as it would only be equivalent to the pipe "losses" which as long as its sized about twice the exhaust port size would be close to zilch

Welcome Jin,,,,,, may I just say what a beautiful piece of work!! Wow! Is this engine from your own design or are you erecting it from a commercial plan set? I would like to purchase a set of the drawings if they are available. Keep up the marvelous work and thank you for all of the pictures….
