Chuff Chuff - I'm Chuffed!!
« on: May 15, 2015, 05:00:52 PM »
I know how much you guys (and gal) like sound effects, so this video might appeal. :)

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5H1wYpni7g" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5H1wYpni7g</a>

This steam engine was built by my Father in the Early 1920's as an apprentice project. Over the years it has been plated to stop the rust, eventually painted and mounted on a wooden block.

The flywheel is 7 ins diameter, bore is 1.5 ins and stroke is 2.5 ins.

It ran, but consumed a lot of air, now it has "O" rings on the piston instead of a split brass ring and PTFE in the stuffing boxes rather than hairy string and runs quite well but sounds even better. :cartwheel:

I am sure my Dad would have been very flattered that his engine was so appreciated.
Some of you may have already been acquainted with him, as after WW2 he worked for Victoria Machine Tools and
Central Tool and Equipment Company. So some of the scraping on your milling machines may well be his work.

He is on the right in the attached picture. The mill is the first  CENTEC 3 produced in the R&D section which was
located in The Forge in Richmond, Middlesex. When CENTEC moved to Maylands Avenue, we moved with them
to Hemel Hempstead.
