2in Fowler Road Loco
« on: April 30, 2015, 03:47:23 PM »
This 2in Fowler Road Loco started out as an eBay find no one seemed interested, so not being able to resist a bargain I won the item, it came with all gears cut and a complete set of castings
The previous owner had started to build a showman’s version of the Plastow castings the wheels were part built and the smokebox had the dynamo extension and door ring fitted
I preferred the road going version, easier to drive and none of the showman’s bling, so I started to tackle the beast, I had made a 3in Burrell and a 2in Fowler Plough in the past so was familiar with traction engine design. The difficult area is the motion as there is very little clearance between the moving parts. If Fowler had made the crank another foot longer life would have been a lot easier?
However got there in the end, as the current boiler regs are so unreasonably stringent these days I had the boiler professionally made, this also adds to the value of the model!
Fowler’s are traditionally painted black but as the plough is black I thought it would come to life with a bit of colour, as I like the LBSCR livery I took their ochre brown as my guide, the contrast with the yellow lining  is pleasant to my eye.
Unfortunately this engine is the last of the line, as she who must be obeyed has banned any more large engines, as she claims we have no more room!!!!!

Mike:

That's a beauty :praise2:

I like your colour scheme too, basic black might be historically correct but this looks good.

Please don't be shy to put up some photos of your other engines.

Cheers, Joe

Very nice Mike and looks good in the brown, I have an almost finished 2" A7 and a set of Superba castings maturing just not got the inclination for TEs at the moment. I too would be interested in seeing the ploughing engine.

That looks like a superb example, and that colour scheme is wonderful. Is that 'improved engine green'? Cheers, Hugh.

Nice Mike  8)

Didn't they also call that colour "improved Green"  :LittleDevil:

Unfortunately this engine is the last of the line, as she who must be obeyed has banned any more large engines, as she claims we have no more room!!!!!

Have you thought of building "her" an extension  :naughty:

:headscratch: a 2" Road Loco isn't very big. Now if you were building a 7 1/4" loco then it might be a bit different.

If you find any more bargains (especially casting sets  :embarassed:) I have plenty of space to house them
