How deep is the snow Papa?
« on: January 26, 2015, 10:47:16 PM »
I  have been watching the network news and it looks like our members in the northeast US are about to get hammered by a blizzard of "epic" proportion.  Hope y'all are all safe and keep us posted.  Some pictures would even be nice,  you know we like pictures  :Jester:

Not much here in Philadelphia burbs.
The big snow is to begin around 10pm.
Steamer and the New England contingent may not shovel out until Cabin Fever

I am in the 20" TO 96" band on the weather channel!  At least this time we know we are going to get a lot of snow.  Back in '78 we were expecting some snow and got 48" in one storm.
On another note, a friend from a warm place wanted to make sure I had plenty of batteries and water.  30 years ago he would have asked if I had enough beer and chips.  Progress?

It was 80 degF here yesterday.  This morning it had dropped to 75 but was still hot in the sun.  Now a bit of storm has moved in from Mexico and we're getting a little warm rain.

Isn't winter a bitch?

Looks like it could be bad from the news. Don't think of it as the blizzard of 2015 though, think of it as extra shop time :) Seriously, stay warm and safe guys!

John...progress?? NOT!! Its called getting old(er) :)

For my location, the forecast has changed more then people change underwear.  I'm located where one of lines of delineation on the Storm Total map is.

I'd wager that we will get around a foot or less here.  So we should dodge the bullet.

For those who get a direct hit,  I wish you all the best and that you don't lose power.

Just a dusting here at ground zero!   Wind is just starting to perk up.....They're talking like 24"+...some saying 3 feet with 40-50 mph winds...and 12 F degrees outside.....NICE.

I have the generator ready....if we lose power...it's going to get pretty ugly around here.....

We'll see....gonna be up for a while...Complete driving ban in the State of Massachusetts as of midnight eastern time.

Good luck boys, keep warm and safe  :).

They keep talking about vicious snow flurries here in the UK  :headscratch: Two weeks ago I was laughing about it with one of my Scottish colleagues who had just flown down that morning from 2ft of snow at home. He said they way the TV was going on about the expected treacherous conditions "down south" he had been hopeful for us but no the only solitary snowflakes tried to make an appearance at about 10am and had long since melted before they reached the tropical ground conditions  :lolb:

It was 14.5 degrees C outside yesterday . I had to open the workshop up to let in some of the heat

The storm was a bust here.  Maybe we got 3 inches.  I'm happy.

Those members in New England, I wish you well.

Dave, stay safe.  Maybe it won't be as bad as predicted.  The storm has tracked to the east.

I'm told we have 20+ inches out there now....it's all powder though.   It'll move easy once the wind dies down.

We still have a travel ban till this evening.

Looks as if you'll be OK. Fortunately, the weather people (as usual) overstated the severity.

Sun is shining at my place, about 70 miles north of Toronto. I guess the storm tracked farther south. ---and it doesn't hurt my feelings a bit!!

Ain't that the truth Vern, I'd rather spend my money on machine tools and car parts than on water wasting plumbing.  I made me a little stove and when we run off a batch I dehydrate the leftover mash and burn it in it. It'll heat up the one holer pretty quick.  Only thing you have to watch for is if we do get a little snow the heat will draw the snow snakes,  sneaky little devils.

The channel 5 news is reporting that my town was the "jackpot" town in Mass.  As of 5 o'clock we officially had 33" here in Lunenburg.  (Its northern Worcester County, about 10 miles shy of the NH border due north of Worcester).  Light, puffy stuff that drifted a lot, so I don't know how/where the measured 33".  There were some parts of my driveway that were clear due to the wind, and others with some BIG drifts, some high as my mother's shoulders, but she said it shoveled easy.

Fortunately for me, doctors orders I can't shovel 8).  Unfortunately for mom, she had to dig a path from the house to the driveway (after the plow came to do my driveway) and dig out her van.  Good thing she stayed here for the storm or I'd be snowed into the house!
