Mike-

I was recently wondering what had happened to this project.  Glad to hear that the family illness is OK.  I understand how that disrupts things.  Excellent update and progress.

Thanks for the kind remarks, I am having to use the library computer because our internet service is not working at the moment.

I have done some more work on the engine including adding the waterpump body, it is attached with 00x90 bolts.

and have finally sorted out how to hold the top of the head onto the cylinders.

Made a small wrench for the tiny spark plugs out of some drill rod using and Allen key as a form

the overall configuration of the pump body seems ok.

I started to work on the valves and the water jacket needed to be relieved for the .100" diameter springs.

The valves are turned from 1/8th drill rod. and I have also turned the blank for the valve seat cutter.

Thanks for the nice remarks.
I have reworked the valves and followed the practice of making the body of the valve a handle for the lapping.

I burnished the cone area with some watchmaking burnishing tools.

then I used the flywheel as a weight and as a way to spin the valve while adding some jewelers rouge to polish the seats.

then parted off the valves

did a clean up on the heads of the valves

ready now to make the lifters.

Once I get the lifters done I will set up the cams which still need to be fully separated from each other then set and pinned to the camshaft.

Thanks for the kind words.

A little more work on the engine, the lifters are .093 diameter with a 0x80 adjustable cap and lock nut, I used a .9mm hole through the bottom as a way to hold the lifter while locking the nut. had to rework the size of the hex with a file it is .080" across the flats.

The cams were fixed with a taper pin the hole size was a  Number 73 drill.

The taper reamer setting the hole taper.

All the lifters in place with a .002 thou clearance

And a video of the valves moving Not a valid vimeo URL

I have started on the inlet manifold, after reading all the material about the vapor carburetors I think this will be the way I will go on this tiny engine. I can hide the tank under the floorboards of the boat and just come up through the scale carb which will act as the air inlet.

The tube was annealed then filled with some .093 styrene then bent around some 1/2 inch rod.

The flanges were turned on the lathe then shaped and drilled on the mill before parting off.

I reground the tip of the 1x72 tap to make it flat to cut these very short threads for the threaded studs and used the thumb disc to do the tapping.

The studs were made from music wire, the stud on the right needs to be shortened , I made the small diameter nuts from some softened 3/32 Allen key.

to be continued.

your workmanship is so good , that I keep forgetting how small this engine is, until something in the photo reminds me.
excellent work. like the idea of using an allen key for hex material.
