Amazon seem to be very good doing this. I recall one author who couldn't find a publisher to print his book for him so was selling his books out of his garage and discovered Amazon were offering his book on a discount.

As he said they had not made contact and as it cost him more than what amazon were offering to sell the books at to have them printed they would not be getting any either  ;).

It's one of the bads that comes from all the good the old interweb provides us with.  Now,  y'all just remember all of this when Marv talks Stan into writing his book or better yet,  should they collaborate on one  :lolb:

Gee, both of you guys are already published,  and all I have is one signed testimony and a couple of really eloquent Porta Jon postings.  Marv, any chance of obtaining an autographed copy?

It seems a certain Marvin Klotz has gone on to his reward.

I was careful to say that I had my name on a book; I did not say that I wrote the book.  After all, can you picture me writing a book on literature?

The story goes like this...

When I was living in Westwood, quite close to the UCLA campus, I kept getting annoying phone calls from students requesting extensions on the due date for their papers.  They always referred to me as "Professor Klotz".

It happened enough that I investigated and discovered that there was a professor at the college with the surname "Klotz".  No amount of explanation of the confusion to the students seemed to stem the annoying phone calls so I just went with the flow and began giving anyone who called a four week extension.   :mischief:

After the prof retired I learned through my connections at the college that his given name was "Marvin".  What are the chances of two people with that set of names living a few miles from each other?

One day I was digging through the detritus at the local library book sale and stumbled on the pictured tome.  There I was or, rather, there he was; well, anyway, "we" had our name on the cover.

Books of literature appreciation are useless so the price was very low.  I snapped it up and now keep it on the coffee table to (falsely) impress yuppie pseudo-intellectuals when they wander in from wherever people like that live.

Thanks for clearing that up Marv.  I'd say the probability of finding 2 Marvin Klotz's within a few miles from each other likely matches the probability of a mathematician writing a book about literature.

Cheers,

Well, since we're chattering.

My real name is the same as someone more well-known than me, and I used to regularly get calls telling me my airline tickets and hotel reservations were ready for travel to (Name your big city of choice in the USA).

Can't say I didn't fantasize about confirming for a few seconds after that.

I got mine for Christmas and have been slowly reading through it (Don't want to read it all in one sitting).  It's well done and her work is just amazing.  Really nice book.

Amazon US currently has a bunch of new copies from sellers at reasonable prices, within a buck or two of the Amazon price. Most of the sellers are from UK, but shipping is cheap. Mine is on the way...
A couple listed at crazy prices - they will be there for a while! Saw the same thing when buying Kozos' train books, still in print at list price from publisher, some sellers asking 3 or 4 times that. Nuts!
