Onboard 12V starter
« on: October 28, 2014, 01:53:08 PM »
Does anybody know of a small onboard 12V starter? I'm thinking something like a moped starter or small lawn mower starter using gear teeth like an automotive style starter. I need to get this figured out for the flywheel and block design.

Another item of interest would be a small 12V alternator for the same engine. Could live without it, but it would be nice to have.

Thanks,
Greg Haisley

This is the starter I'm probably going to use. $35 for the starter or $97 for the starter upgrade kit (includes a flywheel) for switching out a pull to electric start on a 5.5HP Honda GX160 engine for a generator. I have the kit on the way so I can reverse engineer the flywheel and create the mounting holes on the block. This starter is about 3 1/2 inches long 1 1/2 inches in diameter. One more problem put to bed. Now on to the dry sump oil pump design.
