Haha classic video Dave!
I think it could be the reed type valve being blown off its seat then vibrating in its guide? Might help setting the timing to open a bit earlier although the good thing about these is, you don't need to worry about the valve open timing too much as it is light enough to be blown off its seat when the engine is good and ready. That, I guess could depend on many factors such as cylinder temp. How much and how hot the air its drawn in is etc. Could your guide be restricting this happening and slowing the engine down?

Thank you for all your comments Chaps!

I dunno where the duck came from, or why! I hadn't made any drastic changes...... :headscratch:

Not too much to show, for this week. But....... I've almost finished the final build!

I'm making several mods, and upgrades as I go along.

Before finally sealing the cylinder into the hopper, the bore caught my eye. All that time spent honing, was worth it........

Seven ball races, in the crank assembly. The fixed crankpin, links the two halves together.........

Then, the whole assembly is held by two countersunk M6 screws......

Building a bit. Test running a bit........ I'm pleased to report, the duck has flown! Normal popping has returned........   :whoohoo:

Thanks for looking in!

I'm doing the fiddly, finishing, faffing about, at the moment.  :(

Rolled up a pair of stainless mesh, wicks. Action photo........

The finishing line is in sight!

Thanks for looking in.

Dave beautiful work and I have to ask. How do you get such a blue flame from the meth?

Hi Don. Thank you!

I have started making my wicks from stainless steel, 100 mesh. As they do not burn down, nor rust.

They always give a mostly blue flame, compared to the stove rope, I have previously used.

Note, on this earlier video. The l/h burner is stove rope, r/h burner is 100 mesh........

Interesting result on the wick comparison David. Maybe the mesh allows more air to mix with the meths giving cleaner combustion. Just a thought but the difference is obvious.

hi there David D,  I do like your blue flame and I have to wonder if a copper wick would give you a green flame, also I am very impressed with your camera talents.

Hi Bill.

I really, don't know the reason.

This wick is not quite as efficient as the fibreglass stove rope. Though I prefer it, for it's durability.

I tried all the different wire permutations, during my Bengs, Nick, build saga. They rusted, once the galvanise had burned away.  :(

Hi Graham.

Copper wick? No!

I think the copper, conducts too much heat out of the flame.  :ShakeHead:

Thanks for the camera comment!

Both still, and video's, are taken on my Motorola phone's camera. I don't use my Panasonic, any more.

Jo.
Not killed. Controlled.......

Today, I made a shutter template/ drill jig. (R/h end).........

Testing several different blades, I found some of them quacked.  >:(

Until, I turned them around.

Must be the varying resistance, to bending away from the port.

I'm late in saying this is a very nice engine. Thanks for the stainless steel wick hint!
