Installing digital scales to my mill.
« on: October 11, 2014, 07:11:19 PM »
So it’s going a little better with my wife after she had a small stroke.
In between time I have been busy to mount digital scales to my mill.
I have chosen for the igaging digimag scales in combination with the caliper2pc box.
The scales I had lying around for some time and had only had to buy the caliper2pc box.
This due my limited budget.
After installing those scales in the past I was far from happy with those scales.
All the problems and complains I had with them seem to disappeared with the caliper2pc box.
Its accurate now and with the software I have a lot of calculating possibilities.
I will convert my dividing head to, have ordered a rotary linear encoder with 3600 steps / rev.
Hoop this will be accurate enough for the small parts.
Have made a test with a other encoder and this worked fine but a 3600 pulses / rev looks a better option to me.
Coming week  I have to give the box and cables a definite place.
Then clean out the workshop and going on with the head pattern for the KIWI.

Good to see you back Tjark.  I am sure you will appreciate the digital scales on the mill.

Hi Tjark, this box with the additional software seems to be a good solution. Do you know if it works also with the signal from magnetic sensors, i.e. this type http://www.siko-global.com/adbimage/16266/asset_original/data-sheet-msk100.pdf
This system is currently installed to my mill.

Kind Regards

Hello Achim,

I have no answer to your question.
I am not that electronic guy.
I have asked the maker off the box some questions about the rotary quadrature 5V TTL output to mount on my dividing head and must say this guy is responding fast.
Maybe you shut asked him for details.
You can find his mail address on his site;  http://www.caliper2pc.de/en_index.html

You can also use a Centre camera in this software, have made one in the past but have not tested it with this software.

I received this morning the rotary encoder and have connected it to the box and dividing head.
It’s a rotary quadrature optical encoder with 3600 pulses / revolution.
I have now a resolution on the dividing head off 0,025°.
Have made some pictures off the head with encoder and some off the settings off the dividing head and screen.
As far as I can see it for now it’s very accurate.
