Chuck--Nice to see you back messing with the engines again. I follow your posts because I always learn something from them. Good luck with your engine, and I will be following along.---Brian

Thanks, Brian.  This engine may provide some lessons on what doesn't work.  I made some changes to the head, but still can't get any sign of life from the engine.  I know I have spark and I know it's getting fuel, but it won't fire.   Haven't figured out my next step, yet.

I just wondered,  I'v got a 4stroke open crank motor that I designed and built a few years back (2" bore x 3 1/2" stroke),  usually all I get when cranking is puffs of smoke from the exhaust, then every now and then, a good bang,  but no power.

No smoke, no fire, no bang.  It's getting fuel and it's getting spark.  I've tried coleman fuel, butane, and propane.  I've tried setting the timing to fire from about 45 degrees after TDC to 90 degrees.  I've never gotten a single pop.

So, I'm throwing in the towel on this one.  I've already converted it back to the 4 stroke side shaft.  Now I have to get it running a little better.
