« on: September 14, 2014, 05:11:46 PM »
my father has acquired this old steam engine, unfortunately it's not complete.  can anyone identify it or has anyone got photos of complete engine?

I've no idea what it is, but it's a great looking beast, quite large it would seem. Still what's missing could be bought as castings, or fabricated. Good luck with the search. Hugh.

Can't help with id, but looks like an interesting engine.  Just a tip, with photos like these its a good idea to put something like a 6" steel rule, or some standard that size can be judged against, or quote the size of a part like the flywheel.

I thought the propane bottle in the background was a fairly good guide...

4" dia flywheel maybe? I like the flyball governor. I bet Jo or Jason can tell what it was. Too bad the cylinder assembly is missing.

With the double eccentric, it looks like it may have been reversible as well and if so the reversing linkage is missing too.

didn't think about putting a ruler by the engine, the flywheel is approximately 10"

10" flywheel !  That's quite a beast then. Sorry I can't help identify it but I keep checking in to see if someone has yet :)

I wonder if it is not a model, but a commercial power source for a small requirement. Like a popcorn engine. Hugh.

To me it looks a similar design to this engine at the Forncett Industrial Steam Museum.

I'll agree that there's a lot of similarities.
