0 MT Tooling
« on: July 21, 2014, 05:21:04 PM »
Can anyone point me in the direction of a UK supplier for 0 Morse Taper drill chuck arbors please.
I am looking for 0 MT to B10 & 0 MT to B13 in particular, also some soft blank arbors would come in handy.

I could set to and make some, but life is too short.

Thanks
Phil

Might be worth asking Millhill Supplies as they do Sherline lathes which have a 0MT tailstock taper.

Cowells sell blanks end arbors in 0MT but may be cheaper to find a Cowells owner who may have an excess amount of tooling ;)

Not a UK supplier but one in Luxembourg.

http://www.rc-machines.com/en/index

I have ordered some tools there without any trouble.
If you do a surge for RCM0B12 you will find a 0 morse taper drill chuck arbor with B12 chuck tapper.
They maybe have other arbors with 0 morse cone to.

 :lolb: No such thing.

Cowells use a short 0MT taper. I have a rather nice 1/4" chuck on a long 0MT that I must get round to  :zap: drilling off so I can use it for something else  :naughty:.

For drill chucks I've only got 4 spare threaded arbors, no tapers. Best I don't show you the spare arbor drawer  ;)

Chronos have some centres, which might at least give you a start.

Cheers,

Here are some items with 0MT:
http://www.toolkitprice.com/index.php?fuse=0MT&block=92084%26catref%3DC6

And Little Machine Shop has a 0MT live center:
http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=2714

And a couple of JT arbors:
http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=3544&category=

A dead center for a lathe:
http://dewitt-tool.com/DEWX710-0HSmachine_tool_access_center_dead_hss.aspx

Try searching on "0 MT", "0MT", and "MT0" to get more results. These were all first page hits, using www.dogpile.com. Fetch, Arfie! Rrrruff!  ;)

And also try "watchmakers lathe":
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/0-MORSE-TAPER-0-MT-DEAD-CENTRE-WATCHMAKERS-LATHE-ETC-/300521481306

Enco has 0MT reamers, and probably other items. But you can't use 0MT or MT0. Try Morse Taper:

Cheers Guys

Some food for thought there. The problem with non UK suppliers is the cost of postage makes these items very expensive though.
I am now seriously considering making a new tailstock barrel for my Pultra with a 1MT taper in it, that size is much easier to obtain tooling for.

If the barrel is big enough  or do what they do on a watchmaker's lathe and go for collets in the tailstock  ;).

I'm currently going through the same exercise for my little Flexispeed.  Hard centres seem to be available so I think I'll soften some of these and braze a lump on the end to make some blank arbours.  RGD do 12x1 and 14x1 mm screwed arbours for fitting unimat chucks but they are a bit expensive.  ARC euro trade do a 0Mt to 1Mt sleeve which, with 1 to 2 MT sleeve will allow manufacture of the end fittings on the Myford, if I am right in thinking that the short 0MT use the thick end.

A standard OMT and a short 0MT. It uses the small end and looses about 10mm from the thick end.

I made a number of 0MT bits for my Flexi a while ago, soft centre, tail stock die holder, and a drill arbor for a JT1 chuck. For a revolving centre I used the one available for the Seig baby lathe (C0?), the parallel shank on that was large enough to get a good 0MT.

All this was done on the ML7 at the one setting, having fluffed around for a while to get a proper taper angle. I removed the Flexi's tail stock mandrel to test for fit. The Seig centre was held in the 4 jaw for turning, indicated from the parallel shank. I used the the removed tail stock in the 4 jaw to hold the arbor to turn the JT1.

The Flexispeed doesn't get used much, mainly for reasons of accessibility, but these accessories seem to be fairly spot on.

Hugh.

Hugh,

Those are great ideas, thanks.

I don't anticipate using the Flexispeed a great deal but for small items it should be pleasant to use.  It was while making some helical gears with a milling spindle set up on the Myford and then ruining the blank that I decided that it would be useful to have a second lathe, thus avoiding taking down the careful set up to do some turning.  Space considerations forbid anything much bigger than the Flexispeed.

Cheers,

Rod

Returning to Phil's original question,

This: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/No-0-Morse-Taper-MT0-With-B10-Arbor-for-Drill-Chuck-/120878321267?pt=BI_Tool_Work_Holding&hash=item1c24e8ce73

is cheap enough to avoid any additional customs charges.

I actually bought a couple of those ebay ones, they came through without customs noticing them as well.
They do look to be pretty good quality for the price, so I am well pleased.
