Lets get this place something like home.

All you budding artists out there, can you come up with a logo for the top of the page. Get your artistry up in lights.

Something SIMPLE, but HARD and PUNCHY, so it looks like we are here to stay and mean business.

There WILL be a poll to choose the right one.

There will also be a prize for winner and runner up.

The winner gets to come and help me clean out my shop for a day, at your own expense. ;D

The runner up can come for two days, same terms as above. ;D ;D

Joking aside, we really do need something up top, it just looks too bare.

John

[EDIT TO ADD: There is now an offical Logo Competition forum, complete with rules and everything! Please post your suggestions there. Thanks! - admin]

John

my face is red

"we need something up top it looks to bare"

bring on thoughts that are not ME related

my I suggest that a pic of your paddle duck engine would be more than adequate for the purpose

My aim is for a accurate part with a good finish

Stuart,

Do all mens thoughts always turn to sex?

But we must be careful on that subject, I am expecting a few ladies to join in on here as well, so we must always be on our guard not to embarrass them too much.

It is a LOGO that we are after at this time, engine pictures can come later. That is if the members want engines displayed at the top.

Long discussions between us all will be required over that subject.

I will get the thinking cap on but it will be difficult to have a logo that encompasses what we all do and not infringe any copyright

My aim is for a accurate part with a good finish

Some of the only things almost all our engines have in common are :

Piston, conrod and crank - so perhaps a logo made out of those 3 elements.

I'm fully aware of the fact that there was other popular engine types and projects on HMEM that doesn't include those 3 elements, but they are in steam, stirling and IC engines - so without any valvegear, the logo would suit some 95% of all engines that we might expect to be build here - just my two cents.

Good thinking Admiral.

Also, we conveniently (and totally accidentally) have a name with 3 words; so if the conrod, piston & crank can be stylised M, E and M; how cool would that be?

I'd have a crack at this myself except I am a total no-hoper when it comes to drawing  :(
Cheers,
Ade

I dunno, John. I think one of your infamous Crap-o-Cad sketches would certainly be a signature logo.

For the avoidance of doubt, I am not John.

And whilst I'm guilty of producing crap-o-cads, they are nothing like the quality of the originals.

Probably a bit presumptious for a new boy, but I played around with the header for a few minutes and came up with this (that is, if I've managed to attach the picture correctly).

Not as adventurous as some of the earlier suggestions, but it's simple  ::)

I guess a picture of an enormous Texan eating a groundhog while a bunch of engine-toting old guys watch him from an hotel that has an MEM marquee would be too obvious.

"MEMO" - Groan!

Pls note I have now create an official forum (in the Suggestions Box) for the submission of logo entries; so, if they could please be posted in that board and NOT on this threat (despite what John says above), I'd be most grateful.

Ta.

How about a photo of a young lad either assembling model engines or planning them out. With the wording Model Engine Builder (a place for all who love to build model Engines). Model engineering to me is an extension of my youth, we all loved to build things. It's a love of crafting like we use to do went we were young. I do not believe putting a photo of an engine is enough. We have to make it appealling to all Everyone, even the younger generation. Those who want to learn and the craftsmen with knowledge. And a fun place to be to interact with other builders, and share our ideas and experiences.

Don,

Are you thinking along the lines of the old Meccano boxes?
