Elmer #35 steam pump
« on: April 16, 2014, 07:32:41 AM »
I'm not building it but I would like to see a photo of one completed.

I can't make out much from the photos in the plans, I don't know why they are so bad on the John tom website........

I couldn't find a single photo of Elmers #35 (which is odd as it looks like a very nice engine), I do however remember seeing one that Marv built (I think) but I can't find that any more.

So if anybody has built it could they please upload a photo or two?  :)

Thanks,

Nicolas

Nicolas,

Not sure how much better this will be than what is on the John-Tom site bit I scanned the picture directly from the book along with the assembly view. Hopefully someone has made this on and will have better pictures for you. Unfortunately the picture in the book is very low contrast which doesn't help the scanning of it, but maybe this will help you some, until someone can provide pictures.

Bill

Here's mine...

If you need more pictures, let me know which views you want and I'll take some more snaps.

It's a great little pump and that ball joint connection to the flywheel is a sure attention getter at shows.

Thanks for the photo, Marv. If I decide to build it some more photos would be great, but that is still a long way away :)

Is it possible to see a video of it running? I would really like to see how the ball joint looks when the engine is running :)

Thanks,

Nicolas

Marv has uploaded a photo but I would still like to see the photos from the book, if possible :)

Here you go, Nicolas.  I used the slow motion feature on my camera so you could see the action of the ball better.  The engine is not running that slowly.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXAgvxF0IKg" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXAgvxF0IKg</a>

Perhaps some admin/mod can explain why the perfectly valid youtube URL above, when enclosed in youtube HTML markers, shows as invalid.

Using the markers has always worked for me in the past.

If you fix it, please explain what I did wrong.

Edited by Arnold: I'm looking into this; will revert once I have more detail

.... This should be fixed now

I decided to see if I could do a bit better with the photography.

Here's the pump running at normal speed...

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyQ8L21DOAA" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyQ8L21DOAA</a>

and here it is in slow motion...

[Same problem with the [youtube] tags as above.]

Thanks for the videos, Marv. That runs really well and looks great

Would interest me to know if any others have built this pump? I think I will give it a go after building a few more simple engines :)

Thanks,

Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,

This one is on my list, too.
I would like to see someone -you maybe - building it.  :stickpoke:
I'm not very experienced, so it would be a great help.

All the best,

GertJan
