Bengs, Flame Eater. "Nick".........
« on: April 06, 2014, 01:27:08 PM »

Hi Chaps.

Had a frustrating, past few days. Can't quite get my thoughts, around the vague idea I have. For another Stirling engine.

The recent grimey weather has kept my creaking joints, out of the shop.  :(

Then, there's the spring cleaning......   :facepalm2:

Then, the once I actually did get in there. At the door, a plaintive voice began shouting, "I want to play with Grandad!" Game over.......

So...... I had a look in the toy cupboard.

This came to me, around 3 years ago. A Bengs, Flame Eater. "Nick".

It needs a burner.........

Don't like that weird "chimney"........

Only 1 flywheel.......

But...... This one is different to most of my orphans!

It RUNS! Sort of........

That's a nice looking engine Nick. Similar to but much more robust  that the poppin from the looks of it. Can't say I've ever seen one with a chimney, but it doesn't look all that much out of place either. And as you say...this one runs at least :)

Hi Bill, Stuart.

The chimney base, houses a 6mm dia. rubber ball. Which acts as a one way valve. Allowing pressure out. Keeping vacuum in......

Don't know why it needs to look like a Fieldmaster tractor exhaust!

Here's where it originated....... http://www.bengs-modellbau.com/materialkits/flameeater/flameeaternick.php

David
That's an interesting twist

I have heard of valves on Stirling engines but not on vacuum engines

Wow, that's quite the fancy flame adjuster shown on the web site. I was hoping there might be plans but it looks like its a fully machined kit. Still a very handsome engine though.

Hi Stuart, "Dampfforum" is our German forum with a good level of knowledge and a lot of very friendly people.
Their are nearly 970 members from Germany, Austria, Netherland......and also one American.
It is a closed forum, to be protected against all external search engines.
It was founded by Hans Temme, who is gone a couple of years ago and it is now driven by Peter Fallaschek.
Peters private website is the "Dampfundmehr" homepage, mentioned already.
This year we have had our 10 year anniversary.
If you are interested, do not hesitate to register, you are welcome.
The language is German only, all people are posting by their real names and avatars are none or a real picture of yourself.
You are welcome.

Kind Regards
Achim

Achim.

Thanks for the info but as my German is limited to a very small sub set related to electrical/electronics due to the fact that when I was in work we had some Anton Piller machines and the info on them was in German hence the small amount I know

Well......

It needs a burner.
I don't like the "chimney".
The single flywheel's on the wrong side. (I like to see the crank etc. working).
It runs the wrong direction, and, it's the wrong colour.
Needs a pulley making, for the unused shaft.

Apart from that, it's perfect!  ;)

What's a Rebbi:headscratch:
