We have quite a number of people on the Stirling Engine Forum who are non English speakers, Sweden, Hungry, Italy, India, and a number of other countries, a lot of them using Google translator.  It's sometimes a bit difficult translating the translation, but we usually get the idea that is trying to be put across, the German should not be too bad.

I finally managed some shop time, this afternoon!  :cartwheel:

Started work on the burner.

Silver soldered the top, into 15mm x 40mm copper pipe. Then drilled for  wick holder and filler plug.

Like this.......

Experimented with the smallest dia wick I have, (4mm). To determine the optimum wick height.

Shortening the wick tube, 2mm at a time, until the engine doesn't want to run.

Then packing under the burner, back up to working height. Will next, make a tube of the correct length.........

I found revs would improve, with a temporary "canopy"........

Think we need something more permanent, above the inlet port.

A few steps in the right direction. At last!  :whoohoo:

Bread cuts better when the knife is properly tempered.

Nice work on the burner David !  I still find that chimney thingy unique. Don't think I've ever seen one  before to be honest. Seems like it would complicate the timing somewhat but still adds an interesting touch to the model.

Iv noticed the chimney on a few continental designed engines that have the ball exhaust valve.
Do you think it may be keeping the flame away from the nitrile exhaust valve rather than just for effect??

Thanks Fellas!  :)

I thought the knife blade would cause a few comments.  ;)

It's half, of a pair of leccy carving knife blades. They've been in the, come in handy pile, for some years now.......

Bill.
The "chimney", just positions the nitrile ball in it's seat. The adjusting screw on top, has no effect.
Though, the engine slows to a stop, if the outlet is blocked.

Frazer.
With the pipe in the flame. I would guess it heats the ball.......

Frankly, I don't know what to do with it, if anything.......

Hi David, maybe cut the pipe off and tap the top of the fitting so that a screw can be used to restrict the balls movement .This will give speed control.
Make a shield with a chimney as an exhaust for the flame.Iv seen it done that way mainly on the continent.
Have a look

That's the way my thinking is going.......

Sitting, watching it run, at it's best. I realised, half the flame was above the port. It needed something to hold the heat at port level.

Incidentally..... I hope you realise how inadequate you make me feel. Showing the gems which you find, and make!  :facepalm2:

Still not finding much enthusiasm, for this refurb. Dunno why........

Finally got the burner finished!   :)

Soldered in, the wick tube and filler bush. Then fluxed, ready to install base.

Rather enthusiastic with the plumber's solder.......

Stand upright. Heat the base, until the solder seeps through.......

Tried two different types of wick medium.

Pipe cleaner......

Fiine copper wires......

Neither were as good as the fibreglass stove rope I usually use.

Next up. I'll have a look at the valve area. If I can find a small enough tubular spanner for the pifflin' nuts.....

The lack of plumbers solder! Now you've got me! Mr Drillin', I'm watching. So far, your usual standard is on display. Hugh.

David, instead of copper wire for the wick, try steel/iron wire, I use fine florists wire, stainless might be even better, my theory is that the copper conducts heat away, as does copper tube used for the wick tube, so thin steel tube here too.  The fiber glass should be good.  I'v tried cotton, and that's ok until it runs out of fuel, then the cotton burns.
