HI All,
I'm Tim Voght. I'm 53 and I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. I'm trained in electronics, and in recent years I have specialized in embedded systems programming. I have worked (as a contractor) in all kinds of areas from test equipment to consumer audio to automotive. I even wrote firmware to control vacuum-operated train toilets!
I bought a Taig lathe with a milling slide about 10 years ago, and began to teach myself how to use it. I built the PMR #2 oscillator, and then the PMR #3 mill engine with that setup. I liked machining so much that I got myself a J-head Bridgeport and a South Bend 10L. I have since built a barstock Ringbom stirling engine from a book by James Senft (which I still haven't gotten to run), and I built the PMR #6.
I'm currently working on an Upshur Farm Engine (the horizontal water-cooled variant), the partial build of which many have seen elsewhere.
I still consider myself a beginner. I'm still very much working for a living, and only have so much time for hobbies. I've never spent as much time in the shop as I have in the last couple of months. One thing I have noticed (and who knew?) practice makes you better.
I already know the kind of talent present here, and I am humbled. I'm here to learn, and to that end, I have found value in documenting builds for public viewing
Regards,
--Tim
