Three cylinder radail engine
« on: January 24, 2014, 05:31:13 AM »
Hi everyone

I made a very interesting crankshaft bearing for this three cylinder radail engine. It keeps the three cylinders in one plane and also allows them to oscillate independently.

The photos show it in pieces and the video will show how it operates.

That's a good-sized model, Bill, and very intersting to see the casting in the video. It runs very smoothly, too

Thanks for sharing it with us!

Nice engine:)  i love the variable output generator :-)

that big-end arrangement is similar to one used on this three cylinder radial Peter  Brotherhood water engine from 1871  and a John Hastie oscillating engine of a decade earlier :)

The hastie has a very clever variablestroke length mechanism

That's a very interesting bearing you've made there. Is the baseplate casting iron?

Cheers, Hugh.

Interesting design that obviously works very well too!!  Nice smooth running engine and the variable generator adds a lot too.  Thanks for sharing it.

Glad you all enjoyed the video. It is a good feeling when building something like this and it runs well.

Hugh Yes the baseplate is cast iron.
