That is really cool David. What a nice gift. It'll be around a long long time.
Thanks for sharing. I'm really glad to see it.

Stew, Bill..... Thank you!

Hugh...... See below.

Frazer...... As I have found. She's got a better memory than me!

Carl..... Thank you! I hope it will still be enjoyed, long after I'm gone.

A very cool engine David

I'm sure it will be a Grandad keepsake for decades to come.

That's great, but I think I stared too long at the flywheel....

Cheers....

Great video David. Seems easy enough for Mia to operate very successfully too. Im with ths though, the flywheel, as cool as it is, reminds me of the old lead in for "The Twilight Zone."  :)

Dave, Bez, Frazer...... Thank you!

Hugh, Bill..... Blame Grandma. She chose that spiral over a "quieter" one.

Training and Handover Day, arrived.

Unfortunately, Mia has been a little quiet and withdrawn, since her face was scratched by a boy, at school.
She was not quite, her usual happy self. :(

Showed her what to do.......

She immediately got the idea. A little short on dexterity......

Hmmm....... Now. Let me see........

Grandad knows where this is leading.......

Where is my old engine? I want to play with my old one........

Ohhh...... NOoooo!!  She remembered! Gulp....  :help:

"You can't sweetheart. I don't know where it is". "What did you do with it?"

It's in YOUR cupboard. In the blue ice cream box. Ah! Hmmm.......  :help:  :help:

"I'm sorry, sweetheart. But. It's not there now........."

Instant tears, and a ten second sulk. (Though, it felt much longer). Grandma, just laughed.......

She can usually be coaxed...... "Look what I've got here". What is it? Sniff...

She calls it her screwer.........

And, it goes in here........

And..... After some fumbling.......

Happy again........

Amazingly. She asked me what each component was made out of! (How do you explain delrin, and M5 stainless capheads, to a four year old?)  :headscratch:

Shortly after she went home. She told Daddy. You need two fingers, not one, for my new engine........  ::)

Oh! My........  :facepalm2:

David, I am sure that she will soon forget her original engine and be actively looking forward to playing with her shiny new one  ;)

David,

I concur with Jo....but she will soon forget the bad stuff, and once she gets to putting it together and taking it apart she'll be hooked!.....make sure you send  home a supply of the M5 SHCS....I suspect the work shop troll lives at her house also..... :lolb:

David, beautiful story and pics. And she's the spitting image of her grandma, she is. The swirls just may work a treat at nap time. Thanks for sharing.

David,
You have made my day, I was feeling a bit low with a sore throat and a cough but now feel great.

It's just like Frazer when he made the Pop Pop boat for his Grandson Noel.

Thanks for the pics , Mia is a little darling, but like all kids can stamp their feet when things go wrong.

George.
Your never too old to learn.
