Great job on the dial indicator. I like "side projects" like that. (It looks like in this thread this is a side project to a side project - which is how my shop life often goes as well.)

I enjoy all of it. Thanks for posting.

Steve,
Looks like you scored on those purchases. I had a job where I ran a Sunnen hone but you just clamped in the part and pushed start, and stood around and watched it go back and forth. But Pleeeaasse take the key out of the chuck.

Don't panic art. The keys are just in there until I get everything sorted, out of what goes with what. I got five chucks of various sizes with the new lathe from 6 to 2 inch. Once everything is sorted and marked it can all go into the tool box and production can resume.

A little more progress. Have the intake manifold cut out. A little hand filing and a shot in the sand blaster and it will be done. Also have the head, intake, and carb gaskets made. Sorry about the lack of pictures but I am rushing a bit to get as fer as i can. Work is about to get crazy and shop time will become zero.

Well I have reached a milestone on the project. I have completed all that is covered on the drawings. I am going to finalize the drawings and then figure out a way to rig up an ignition and fuel tank and get it fired up. After it has run I will get it mounted and complete a permanent fuel tank and radiator.

Thanks Don and Art. Tomorrow I'm going to try to bend up some pipes and hope to have it running by the weekend.

... I was taught to drill hole pattern from the mating surfaces so the bottom of the part is facing up. The hole pattern is spot drilled because these need to be accurate. Then the holes drilled.

Sometimes in rereading you just come across a gem. This is so obvious in retrospect but I sure missed it the first time I read through here. Sheer accident too; I was rereading to see just where the pretty black distributer body came from (never did find that) and accidentally stopped on this sentence. Thanks, Steve.

That was one of the benefits of belonging to a metal working club. It was told to me by one of the best fabricators and machinist in the club. Makes a lot of sense but i'm not sure I would have figured it out on my own. Thanks Ron!

The cap is a Bruce Satra design. Roy Sholl sells them now. They are on the Snow Engine page.

Well it fired up today. I had to fool around with the distributor for a little bit but finally got it to pop. Now the fun begins with the tuning and fiddling around but it works!

Excellent!

I'd missed the earlier post showing the engine in all its glory. Beautiful.
