Thanks for the comments everyone.

Roger and Marv:  I should have mentioned that they can be scaled up using the same techniques. Tool supply has balls of all sizes and many materials including soft steel which some might prefer to the brass that I used. Soft steel would also be fine for the socket but might be difficult to form around a brass ball with out damaging a brass ball.  If scaling up, don't let the wall thickness of the socket around the ball get too thick or it might be difficult to form.

Marv: I came across as being too harsh on Elmer's design.  Mine ran fine using his plans and many others have also.  But the ball joints have an appeal all of their own as well as being cool.  Since the Cross Twin always draws interest when shown the extra bit of work was well worth while to me.
