Here is our race report

The 2018 Snowball race at RC Excitement was a very successful race day, though it was not without issues. My father was unable to participate due to a fall injuring his leg a few days earlier, spawning my first race operating on my own. I brought three classes, 4wd mod shortcourse, 4wd mod buggy, and 2wd mod shortcourse, though I quickly decided to drop my 2wd since I was unable to prepare all of my vehicles between rounds. That left the two 4wd classes, both of which ran excellently with minimal fine-tuning. The only major change I made was to lower the front roll-center of the buggy by removing a 1 mm shim on the steering hub and increasing my front camber to about 1.75 degrees. Apart from that, M4 compound Proline Electrons ground down to about 0.75 mm of tread were phenomenally grippy, our Team-Scream batteries combined with a Hobbywing XR10 Pro ESC, Team-Scream 5.5 for the buggy, and a Hobbywing 4300 KV motor for the shortcourse provided exceptional power.

I finished well in both classes, enjoying a well-tuned shortcourse by my father to victory and participating in a fantastic whole-race battle with TLR driver Caleb Jennings with our Xray Xb4,  but had to settle for 2nd

The difference between ghosted and new tires.     Ghosted tires work the best for our track surface as long as the track isn't real new...or what we call "Green"

Race Report

The Race for Hunger, a charity race held to raise food donations for a local charity, was a very enjoyable event for me. Unfortunately, my father was still recovering from a previous injury, and was thus unable to come. On the bright side though, a multitude of other fellow drivers generously offered help drive me to the event and provide advice on set-up. I drove three classes, 4wd mod buggy (an Xray XB4 2017), 4wd mod SCT (a Losi SCTE 2.5 with the MIP Pro4mance kit and Bypass shocks), and 2wd 17.5 stock SCT (a Xray XT2 2017 with the J5D SCT conversion kit). I finished qualifying TQ in all of my classes, and started with an excellent flawless run in 4x4 SCT. Sadly, a couple of unfortunate instances with traffic and some poor set-up decisions from me caused me to fall to 2nd in 4x4 mod buggy. On the brighter side, I had another excellent race in 2wd SCT, being closely tailed to the very end by 2nd place. I ran a Hobbywing 3660 in my 4x4 SCT, and a Team Scream 5.5 and "THE1" 17.5 in my  4x4 buggy and 2wd SCT respectively. I ran worn-down M4 electron tires and a HW XRT10 Pro in all of my vehicles.   I want to thank all of our sponsors who help us so much

The unfortunate issue with the Xb4 was a loose shock cap that let some air in.  This made the buggy inconsistent, and resulted in a couple of bobbles during the main, coupled with some beginner traffic issues.....
Same set up as is usual for the Xb4 which is box stock with TSR 5.5  no timing and 600 cst front and 400 rear.   The XSC2 ran with the JD5 shock tower, and the 2mm shim under the transmission.  This continues to make a very big difference in the forward bite of the truck.  The rest of the set up of the truck is box stock.

Yeah I know I have been a little slack lately  . Great job William. Really good to see everything still progressing during our crew chiefs absence. Just remember; racing is a lot like fishing: you aren’t always going to be catching fish or winning races, but, it’s the “hope of” that keeps you coming back. As a good spotter would say: just stay cool and keep doing what you are doing  .
