Ron Chernich
« on: November 03, 2013, 11:50:50 PM »
Has anybody noticed that the Model Engine News website has not been updated this month. I know Ron has been in poor health for quite some time. I hope that everything is fine with him. Has anybody talked with him or know if he is alright?

The November issue is up and, as feared, the news is not good. Go to Modelenginenews.org for details.

If Ron has helped you in the past, or even if you have just been a reader, I know that an email would be appreciated. Keep it light. As one of the first model engine sites on the web, his site has been one of the greatest assets to model engine building for many years.

He has added a "Donate" button to the left side main menu. You may have to refresh the menu to see it. Over the years Ron has freely helped many people, including me. If he has helped you, consider a small donation to help him out now.

I have been a member of MEN for a few years now and the site is just ban amazing goldmine of information around model engines.  I think the loss of the site would be an absolute tragedy and really do hope that some means of archiving it can be found. :(

Our thoughts are with Ron and his wife.

An update:

I have been in contact with Ron today. He is hoping if his condition remains stable to maybe do some quarterly MEN issues. The future of the MEN material has been secured by the Motor Boy Members. They don't want to go public just at the moment as to what they are doing.

My warmest best wishes goes out to Ron, what he has done single handled with MEN has been amazing and has benefited all of us who share a passion for building model engines across the globe.

Thanks Ron .

I have received the sad news from the Motors Boys that Ron Chernich passed away at 1:30 on Saturday morning  :'(.

Ron will be greatly missed by so many of us: his knowledge of model engine making that he freely shared with us through his monthly publication of Model Engine News was outstanding. I understand that it is hoped that MEN will continue in some form.

May I pass on my sincere condolences at this sad time to his wife, Ruth.

That is sad news Jo.

Though we never met Ron and I corresponded for some time and from the outset his enthusiasm for his subject not only shone through but his kind words of encouragement were an inspiration. There will definitely be something missing at the end of a build now with no Ron there to show whats been done.

He has certainly done the I/C world proud with 'MEN' - long may it continue as his Legacy. My condolences too to Ruth for her sad loss.

Farewell Ron - safe journey.

Sad news indeed.  Ron's provision of free acces to information on collecting and building model i.c. engines was an inspiraton and example to us all.

Oh d...  ..... I'll too miss him, as I already do with the update on http://modelenginenews.org/

I kind of knew when he and I first exchanged comments about his illness in a mail about "diesel CI engines", but I really hoped that he would had stayed a lot longer among us as long as it wasn't too painfull ...

Thanks for all Ron and my sympathies to your family.

I did not know him or who he was. But it's more than apparent he had a major influence on many of you.
My condolences to his family and to you.

My Condolences as well, I never met Ron, but we sent an email or two...I had some questions about his Whippet build...he was a very friendly and knowledgeable man.  It's my loss that I didn't take the opportunity to get to know him better.
