Pultra Quick Change Tool Post
« on: December 01, 2013, 07:08:34 PM »
I decided to make one of these for my little Pultra lathe, it is a design that I have seen elsewhere and just modified a few dimensions to suit my application.

Actually I made a few sets whilst I had the machines set up, so what you see is enough parts for four of them on the go. Some of these may end up on ebay soon.

1¼" square blocks marked up for drilling etc

Machining the dovetails on the tool holder material.

My prefered method of measuring dovetails.

Reducing tool holders to finished height on the shaper.

Making good progress now.

Cutting the slot for the tool bit with 1/4" side and face cutter.

Slitting the main block with a 1/16" slitting saw

Finally finished.

I like that a lot Phil!

I think you will enjoy using it!

I made a copy of a Hardinge QCTP for my Old Atlas years ago....and it really transformed the usefulness of the lathe!

Jo

I made them all extended slightly, the main block is 1¼" square and the holders are 1½" long so they overhang by 1/8" each end.
I also made a few blanks with no tool groove that I might bore out so I can use round HSS as a boring tool.
