Hi from New Zealand
« on: July 24, 2012, 09:58:13 AM »
Hi guys,
Just been given the OK to join you all. I had been lurking on "that other" site for awhile soaking up all the freely given how to's etc & was really enjoying what I was reading. Like others was a bit devastated the all the brown stuff hit the rotating thing. Have lurked here a couple days & see that many of the you have come over & I am hoping that you will bring your how to & build logs over as there is loads of more than useful info in them.
OK a bit about me. I've been playing at model engineering for about 30 years.....is it really that long. I've no formal machining training.....just make it up as I go along & hope (a) it turns out how it supposed to & (b) I don't break anything, me included in the process. I prefere steam but after spending many happy hours reading what & how some you make I.C. Engines I could almost be persuaded to change, if it wasn't for a rather large pile of casting that has been aging under the bench for some years, just wait for the household stuff to be finished or at least reduced so I can spend some time in the shop.
I work in the petroleum industry which is fun. According to some friends kids...just like Homer. Basically get to play computer games for a living BUT with a very expensive bit of kit hanging on the other end of the fiber. I'll have a read on how to post pics & when I get it sorted post a pic of the new compressor we are getting, a bit big for the Homeshop as it needs 3.5 megawatts to spin, & a couple of how crank shafts are made full size.
Well that's about, thanks for having me on board.

Cheers Kerrin

Welcome on board Kerrin !

Kind regards, Arnold
Building an engine takes Patience, Planning, Preparation and Machining.
Procrastination is nearly the same, but it precludes machining.
Thus, an engine will only be built once the procrastination stops and the machining begins!
