Jo,
If you go to modelenginenews.org and search for :-

ageing brass patina

It will point you at some results of experiments that Ron did on 'ageing' brass parts. He recommends baking soda.

Thanks Guys, as I said things are going slow, keeping my fingers and toes that the quack doesn't try banning me from the workshop later in the week   :paranoia:

Vince: No I didn't but when I made the drain cocks without annealing they started cracking  so I had to touch them up with silver solder. I will have to do some experimenting at some point to see if annealing would have helped .

Steve: Thanks that sounds a much more civilised way forward than Jason suggested  :hellno:

There seems so much to try to get done before the Show in four weekends time  :-[

The spindles had to be turned to 2.4mm diameter for a fair old distance which reminded me Mr Silky needs a travelling steady  :-\

The handles themselves start out on the end of a bit of brass undercut for the cut away:

Then the centres of each of the spokes is spotted into place:

Before drilling half way across with the same sized drill as the spokes:

Only half way as small drills with such deep holes have a tendency to wander. Then add some bits of dowel as the spokes:

This time I tried soft soldering it  it was easier to clean up but not as strong as my normal silver solder. Shape up the outside:

Catching it with a drill before the workshop gnome decides to add it to his collection  :ShakeHead:

Clean them up and two handles:

 I'm getting near painting  :paranoia:

That's a nifty way of making those handles. Duly noted, and good work.

Definitely coming good. Sorry I won't be there to see it!

We will miss you  :(

There is a new cup this year for model engines that they epecially started as they realised the growing interest in our type of engines and I am hoping that the DT might be in for a chance  :whoohoo:

I thought from previous years you were reluctant to enter anything into the competition classes :headscratch:

Assume like the others its just open to club members?

Jo,

Man you must really HATE Photobucket..... I know I do. They single-handedly broke the internet by capturing/destroying visual information in probably 100,000 threads etc. Oh well they live in infamy; and there's nothing we can do about it anyway …  guess Ill drink another Leffe Brun :DrinkPint:
Very nice thread and build. Too bad I cannot see your workmanship.

I have to agree with cabbagestack photosuckit is the worst. I follow Jos' work as she is a brilliant craftsman, person or whatever the correct bullocks is nowdays but cannot see it clearly.I swore off photosuckit when they charged for use though loss of customers made them back down a bit.

Well their is something users can do. pay the small yearly fee rather than moan about something you got for free. I have used them for almost 20 years and all my images still show on every site I have put them on.

Thanks for reminding me I was going to take all my pics over to Coppermine and I haven't done it yet as I retired and haven't had the time I used to have when I worked for a living  :ShakeHead:
