modern marine compound engines 1873

my main interest is marine steam engines and I thought I'd buy the print on demand version of 'modern marine compound engines - forming a supplement to modern marine engineering' (1873) by N. P. Burgh. If you're thinking of adding this to your library, well , DON'T. the books sole value is in the 17 fold out plates of line drawings of compound engines. the only text is a brief description of the plates. And as they never seem to fold out the plates when they copy the book, well, it's just a book of part blank pagesand a waste of money.

If you are intersted in Victorian marine steam, then tracking down an original copy might be worthwhile but not cheap. (some of the larger reference or university libraries have editions). The plates are 21" by 17" line drawings (some sectioned) and cover 8 different engines by such builders as Maudslay,  R. Napier and John Elder. scales vary from 3/4" to the foot to 1 1/2" to the foot.
