Whittle v8 scaled up
« on: August 26, 2013, 03:49:46 AM »
New to the group just having a go at posting. I have spent the winter working on the v8 great to have it finally working as it is supposed to. Put some photos up last week but must have pushed the wrong button. They  have disappeared so will try again.

Nice job - any pictures of the internals or a video of it running?

Stich, what's the sitch?

Beautiful job.  A scaled-up Whittle, V8.  Can you tell us the bore X stroke, and anything else about the build?  Castings, bar-stock, etc?  The end results are great.  The interesting part is how you got there.

All I have done is scale up the original drawings as printed in Model Engineer April 95. This gives a bore of 920 and stroke 1 inch. The engine is all out of bar- stock and flat plate. I have made my ignition system with points using a 6v coil. My workshop has a mill ,two lathes ,drill press and shaper plus a lifetime of collecting .
I will try and get some footage of it running once I master computers and camera.
