My Dungeon
« on: August 24, 2013, 01:44:22 AM »
Here is a picture of my get away dungeon !! The black "COW" matts are 4'x6' to give a reference size. They're are for cows to stand on in the stalls, guaranteed for 10 years with COWS standing on them. They are about $40.00 a piece on sale at Tractor supply. Great for standing at the machines and a whole lot cheaper than the "real" matts. Should last me a couple lifetimes  ;D !! So, overall I guess I appropriated about a 12'x12' space from my better half !!!

Ahh, there's nothing like having your own man cave. A very neat and tidy shop.
I notice a spray bottle on the lathe bench. do you use it for coolant? if so , what type?

yours

The spray bottle is Tri-cool...synthetic based coolant. Works great!!

A little updated pics on the Dungeon

Lathe with 5C collet chuck, collet rack above with about 60 5C collets. Over 95% Hardinge from yard sale that they didn't know what they were...got them REALLY cheap !!

Mill with new homemade base painted and leveled

Looking good Dave!! Nice score on the 5C collets too, you don't run into that every day :)

Nice setup.

That's the kind of mill I hope to get this spring. How was it getting it into the dungeon?

The collets I had found when I just started this hobby a few years ago (2013). Excellent score !!!  A buddy of mine made the rack for the 5C and R8's for the mill. Turned out very nice.

Zee...getting the mill in the basement wasn't too bad. The stand was the easiest part ! The actual mill took two others and myself !! Probably could've done it with just two of us. I don't have a outside entrance so down a flight of steps !! That was the hardest part. It's awkward to carry !!! To say the least.

In the first picture in post #3, what's the silvery thing with what looks a bit like a turbine blade hanging above the collet rack?

Based on your post I got a 3x6 stable pad (aka cow mat) at Tractor Supply on sale for $20.  Might get a couple more.  The bigger ones wouldn't fit in my car.
