Lathe stops and locks and T-Track
« on: August 22, 2013, 08:31:22 PM »
While making my latest engine i had to make some multiple parts and wish i had more carrage stops on my lathe and mill, so now i have fitted some using T-Track which is aimed at woodworking gadgets but works here to. I find that it is while you are making something that you find the shortcomings of your machine but they are soon forgotton until next time. I also wanted to fit a digital dial gauge to the lathe and made a bracket to slot in the track. I hope the pics are self explanatory.

Nice looking mods Geoff and I especially like the ability to mount the electronic indicator with the T-track too.  Wish my lathe stayed that clean though  :embarassed:

Great idea. I have some t track from woodworking days.  I'm going to dig it out.

I don't think my lathe was that clean when I took it out of the crate.
Best,
Stan

Nice Geoff.
Is the leadscrew cover an original fitting or something you have added?

John

yes i did make the leadscrew cover, i read on the forum that it's a good idea to protect the gears behind the apron so this was one of the first things i did with a brass cover and extended it to hold a leadscrew cover also made of brass. I 've had my lathe for a year now and do like to keep it looking good plus i mainly work brass and Ali so i don't have to much coolent splashing around. I like making the Mods as much as making engines and anything that makes your work more accurate or efficient is pleasing.

Here's a closeup of the parts, the track is 19mm wide and i think there is a larger version.
