My old workshop /shed had no insulation, it was to hot in the summer & to cold in the winter and it was a constant fight with rust, rust on your lathe can make a gown man  or woman cry!!

Thanks for all the words of encouragment, links and advice. I was only going to line the walls with ply, but i will now insulate before lining.

and Marv, you have me worried now . it was SWMBO who suggested getting the shed in the first place. I shall have to make sure that I fill it first before I get the 'but I let you have the shed, surely there's space to put the garden chairs in over winter?'

once again thank you

peter

You're doomed.  Trust me on this.

Yeah, sure, Dave, you make the rules.  We believe you.  No, really, we believe you.

I packed everything from my shop into a shipping container and moved it to our new house on the other island.  Then I unpacked into my new shop.  Now the new shop is full and so is the container, in fact it was never empty! :embarassed:

Hi,

you have done some wonderfully clever stuff already with your simple equipment. :AllHailTheKing:

With a bit more space you will have a lot of fun.

Best Wishes and take care now

John

I took the advice and lagged, boarded out and painted the walls and ceiling (just the door to do).
and here she is, looking all sparkling and pristine

next step was to fill it. I decided to keep my old bench, as it was solidly made, although grubby. some of the side storage spaces will be lost as I intend to extend the top to fill one wall, but all those vertical leaves make it quite solid.

the drill I'm undecided as to where to put it. for the time being I've placed it against the back wall, but placed it on those rollers for moving washing machines etc.
I also wanted a second bench on the back wall. the wall to wall measurement is about 65 inches. the old bench is 24 inches. if I made it 18 inches, that would leave a 23 inch 'walk way'. wide enough for now, but as my cycling and fell walking are reducing, but my beer consumption isn't, I thought I'd take a leaf out the architect's book and make it 15 inches, thereby leaving an expansion gap.

I then filled it as quickly as possible with all my junk before SWMBO had a chance to put anything of hers in.
next stop was to start organizing. here's the metal rack. it slides on 2 extending draw runners and 2 casters so it can be stored away. the metal is stored on various pieces of plastic guttering.
now you see it.

and now you don't (well, you won't when I fit a door front on it!)

works quite well, and there's room to fit another next to it.
