My Son's Reward.
« on: August 11, 2013, 10:35:46 PM »
Some of you might know that my son missed a lot of school this year due to illness.   No not bad...but enough to keep him out...so we took him home, and home schooled him this year....it's been a challenge to get caught up , but he's about 2 weeks away from being done...just in time...for the next grade.

It's been tough for him...for lots of reasons...so I offered him a challenge.

Get it done, get the NEW RC car you want.....I kept my promise..as this was a tax free weekend...I took advantage.

http://traxxas.com/products/models/electric/6807Lslash4x4ultimate

He's cranking out the lessons as fast as he can now....he want's to go run it.

Looks like fun.   Hope he gets motivated and gets the car.  Having the reward right there in front of him should help.  Sounds like he will be back on schedule soon.

For the whole summer, he's been busting his back side.   I'm very proud of him.

He got the short end of the stick this year, through no fault of his own.....and he's fighting back.  He's gonna make it.

I'm proud of him.  I wanted him to know that SOMEONE keeps a promise they make.

Your son made an excellent choice!  My son has that same car, just a couple years older.  Its a great car and really takes the punishment!  Sure, he's had to replace a few parts here and there, but nothing major. And all the parts are readily available!

Send your son my best!  He'll love the car! :)

We took it to the indoor RC off road racing track last Saturday.....for 4 hours!.....He flogged the living snot out of it!...like he hit concrete a couple of times!.....We had a minor crack in the body, and two loose screws which I tightened....and recharged the battery several times.....but no drama.

He loves it!

That looks like too much fun. Good going Will, hard work always pays off in the end. And the same to you Dave, it took two. What is the range of the transmitter or I guess how far away can you control the car I should say.

Hey Eric....

The range has got to be over a 1000 feet....anyway....far enough that you can't tell what it's doing!...and the car is 18" long!

Boy I wish you hadn't told me that. I've got a spot that's fenced in and the fence line would make a nice Baja type layout. There's a high spot right in the middle where you can see the whole thing. It's probably a 150-200' radius. I've been wanting something RC to tinker with and that thing looks like it would even be hard for a redneck to break. Lou is gonna shoot us both :lolb: :lolb:

Your watching about 1/4 throttle....the track is hard clay with a fine "silt" so it's really slippery.....if you come out of turn and punch it on the outdoor track...it just comes around.

Eric....Homeslice butter top wheat bread......you get this car...your on your own....don't blame me .....I don't want Mama mad at me! :lolb:

Just a suggestion..............

Whilst William is pounding round the track, if Dad were to lash out on an RC Helicopter with a video camera, he could film the action from overhead. Sort of a Dual Duel.

And I hope the wives and mums still love me.

What amazes me is that only once in the video did i see it not land on its feet. Are these things designed like cats or what?

Hey Bill,

The latest "Slash" is designed to have a very low center of gravity.   It helps to keep it up right.

It does go turtle every once in a while....but you're right...it is uncanny.

Once the battery gets to about 3.2 volts per cell, the cars control drops power to 50%, The batteries are pretty volatile.  It needs a special charger, and a cell balancer.   If you follow the rules...they're very well behaved....but follow the rules

We've been using the 2S ( 2 cell)  7.4 volt , 5000 MAH Lithium Polymer ( LiPo) battery that is rated at 25C.   That means its capable of continuous discharge at 25 times the nominal rating or  125 amps ( 5 amps x 25).....this makes the car go 40 mph and on a slippery surface like the outside track...that's about all your going to get down to the ground with 4 wheel drive.

We have the optional 3S ( 3 cell) 11.1 volt ...8400 MAH LiPo battery rated for 25C or 210 amps....the car with the right gearing is good for in excess of 60 mph.....though you should lower the suspension or your subject to "blow over"....it's got the aerodynamics of a toaster oven....and off road at this speed is really not advisable!

Well...first break...blew the bearings out of the rear slipper clutch assembly....cost $8 .....needs a new body...cost $51...not bad considering....

Working on it is easy....hose it off with the garden hose...let it dry....4 screws the car come apart.
