Top Slide Fixed

I had to get new topslide T-bolts recently for the ML7 as the 5/16 one was stripped when I bought the lathe but was enough to hold it still. he new ones from RDG tools were 3/8".

I had had trouble pivoting the topslide with the old ones but no way were the 3/8" ones going to allow any movement at all. A check of the slots and I could tell that no casting slag/dags had been removed. I used a a rat tail and 1/2 round file to clean up and square up the slots.
Now I have no problem pivoting.

I am the 4th owner of the ML7 and wonder had those previous owners never had need to pivot at all?

Ray

Hi Ray,

I have T nuts holding my ML7 top slide to the cross slide, and I'm pretty sure that they are 1/4 BSF.

I use the top slide swung around all the time, particularly if the tail stock is being used with the dead or revolving centre.

Hugh.

They do seem stout!....my 12" 2 HP Logan has (2) 3/8's bolts holding the compound....

If they work...they can't be wrong though!

Glad you sorted it!
