Another tool rack
« on: July 05, 2013, 09:40:05 PM »
Maybe should be called MOATR - mother of all tool racks  . It seems all I've done lately is make racking for tools but I reckon I'm about done now. Mind, I said that after the last one too. I had quite a collection of odd blocks of wood with cutters in so I decided to consolidate them all into one large rack, and also leave a bit of extra space for new ones. So it turned out to be a big rack.

I had about 12ft of this stuff, extruded aluminium rectangular section which has been sat gathering dust for years so thought it might as well be used for something. I machined some rectangluar plugs for the ends which were an interference fit, hammered them in with a touch of Loctite 238 which allowed me to thread screws into the end. Cutters are sorted by shank size, then by type (4-flute, slot-drill, ball-nose etc), then by size. I have a load more small 6mm-shank solid carbide mills which are a bit too short for this rack so I'm still puzzling over how to store them.

I'm trying to avoid pondering on the dozen odd drill sets I have lying around! But I have just bought this cobalt HSS metric set so have yet another to find a hole for. These puppies go through anything.

Very nice Chris, and of course it had to be in that nice Myford green!

Do you have a link for those cobalt bit sets?

Vic.

Sure, here: http://www.rotagriponline.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_images.tpl&product_id=9485&category_id=946&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=29

On offer right now but they are not cheap drills - these are German made, split point. Rotagrip are a good firm to deal with, delivery was within 24hrs.
