4 stroke single
« on: June 13, 2013, 11:17:59 AM »
This is my current project. I will put up pictures of the build sequence to date and hopefully gain some tips from the more experienced members on how I could do things better.

Some of the concept came from a 2 cylinder engine I saw in a German magazine. The basic dimensions came from the material sizes available from Conrad and the amount I could offset the crankshaft in the 4 jaw chuck to set the stroke.

As I had not done any machining for quite a few years I made a trial crankshaft from aluminium and then recently made the 'real one' from steel.

During the build I slowly increased the amount of tooling I had, for example a vertical slide for the lathe and a rotary table, so some of the earlier operations would be done differently now.
Best regards

Roger

I'm currently on the last 20% that also takes 80% of the time. I'm also remaking a few parts that I am not satisfied with as my skills have improved with practise.

Best regards

A few more steps along the way. The tilting vise was made by my father during his apprenticeship with English Electric many years ago.

Enjoying the pictures of the build keep them coming  ;D

The tilting vise was made by my father during his apprenticeship with English Electric many years ago.

It is amazing how many of these apprentice pieces are still being used I have two of the vices I made as an apprentice that still get regular use .
