Little forum glitch?
« on: July 23, 2012, 12:11:26 AM »
Ade, John, and other admin type folks;
I've noticed many times now that when I try to paste something into a post in the reply box, it won't do it.  Normally,
I copy whatever I want from its source, (like my notepad) and when I right click on my mouse to paste it here, the
dialog box that opens does not even have the paste option available.

Like this:

It took me about 15 clicks of the right mouse button to get the normal paste dialog box to pop up so I could
paste that image in here.  You can see there is no "paste" option in that pic above.

I tried to paste a second picture into this post, but after dozens of tries, I've given up.  This doesn't happen on any
other forum I visit.

Firefox, Eric.  Doesn't do this on Modder, and these seem to be the same forum software.
My latest update to the browser was just a few days ago.
Anything else you need to know, please ask.

Problems like this are notoriously difficult to resolve :( I hate cross-browser compatibility bugs...

e.g. I use Opera, and so far, nothing has gone wrong for me, SW wise. (well, apart from Opera occasionaly deciding it's bored with what I want to read, and it'd rather have a sleep instead, but that's all sites affected not just here, or MM, or wherever).

I'm not sure you can paste pictures directly into the box, can you? Certainly I can't here in Opera, I haven't tried IE or FF yet.
Cheers,
Ade

Not likely the problem here, but sometimes cut and paste are disabled in applications.  To get around that, use cntrl-C and cntrl-V respectively. For clarity, this means holding down the control key and typing the letters c or v.

Ade, all the pictures that are in my "Bijou" thread were simply pasted in.  You just have to add the IMG tags, but
when I write up a post, I put those in my notepad text.  This is how a WYSIWYG post editor usually works.

Hi Dean,

If you're pasting links, they're text & should work fine. If you're trying to paste the actual physical image, that won't work. That's the only way I can make the Paste link grey out on Opera.

Could you do me a favour - next time it happens, can you pls check what's in your clipboard? On Windows XP, you can run c:\windows\system32\clipbrd.exe. If it's text, then there's a problem, if it's a copy of the picture, then I'm pretty sure it won't work no matter what browser you're using...
Cheers,
Ade

Here's the other image I was trying to post, which shows the normal "paste" box.  For some reason it worked this time.
As I'm typing now, I'm trying to use the paste function again, but now it won't work, again.
I just get the "Back", "Forward", "Reload" box.  It just seems to go on and off by itself.

What is on my clipboard is the code for the same picture in this post, above.
Without the IMG tags, it looks like this:
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b159/deansofidaho/copypast2.jpg
I had to type that out because it again will not paste.

Dean,

I don't know for sure but are you getting your right and left clicks confused ?

To copy and paste I have success with right click. I am using Firefox. V 14.

Dean,

Have you tried clicking "toggle view" that is the furthest  'button' to the right, the one with the blue arrow and red square brackets.

Just a thought  :D

I'm using the correct (right) click button, Bob.  That's the only way you get either of the boxes I showed here.

DaveH, I have no idea what the toggle view is.  There is no blue arrow with red square brackets on my computer or mouse.

Hi Dean,

Your opening post you posted a screen shot, I can see the button with the blue arrow and red square brackets.

I have no idea why it is called "toggle view"   Toggle dialogue box would have been better  :D :D :D

Oh, on the dialog box.  I thought you meant something on my actual computer.
So, what will happen if I click the "toggle view" button?  I don't want to make things worse..  ;)
