Thanks all for looking in and this project has been on the back burner for a while.

Dave, the alloy base is for mounting it to the lathe as Hugh has pointed out and can be driven by the lathe or just with its own motor. With the VDH on the cross slide and the UPT  driven by the lathe makes it a very useful tool. I have a DC motor I will be using on it.
I do plan on making the ball handles for it not the tommy bars because I like the look.

I also made myself a universal pillar tool from the GHT drawings in his second book - Dividing and Graduating. It is made purely from bar bar stock and a small mj-189 plus a pillar drill.
It turned out quite nice and has given me much help primarily when threading.

A very recommendable addition to anyones workshop.

Thank you ths and tel for kind comments.

I looked at Hemingway's site, and he sells the two books for ~27 GBP each. There will of course be an additional postal fee i guess.

Some years back I also noted that it was (then) possible to purchase just the drawings, but do not know if that is still possible. It may be worth a mail check?

You've done a nice job on it, making it from bar stock Peter.

Thank you Don!

It consumed some elbow grease, but it was certainly worth it. A very well thought out and versatile tool.

I didn't get much done this weekend, plenty to do around the house. However I did get the last arm bored. After boring the .875" hole I pulled out the clamping pad and got a surprise. Some how I must of used the .750" value for the offset dimenisions for the clamping pad. When I bored the .875" hole the bore was just cutting into the thread of the securing screw.  :hammerbash: I have one way out of this, the screw is .250" and I can go down to the next diameter and that would be a number 12 screw. This would allow the screw to pass and not make contact with the column and I will have to make a new clamping pad. I also have to make another clamping pad for the alloy base. When I picked it up to look at it the pad fell out. I quess you know that that dam little gremlin snatched it up and no where to be found.  :cussing: Now I have a rather large floor area in my shop and it is gone.
Anyway I have a few photos no much but just to show how the pillar tool is used to do staking on the Micro Attachment know that I remade and that another story.
This first phot show how the Pillar tool is being used for staking my Micro dial.

The last arm complete and has to have the clamping pad redone to accommodate the number 12 screw. I want to show how they line up together with column and .750" shaft through both arms.

Thats all I have for now and work starts tomorrrow so it will be a while before I get more done.
Thanks for looking in.
Don
