Hugh, that would be the radiator so to speak, Hot water from the water jacket would be piped to the top of the mesh cone, so that as it flows down over the screen wire and into the bucket below it is cooled. The inlet for the pump then sucks cooler water from the bottom of the bucket and the process goes round and round.

Hi Bill,  Thanks for the nice words.  I got the castings from Bob May since deceased, who designed it & who lived not far away.  Nice guy & retired Cat engineer.  The rights have been sold twice since then; the last I knew they were owned by somebody in Ohio who was not doing anything with them.  That was a year or two (or more) ago.  Have their contact info somewhere if you want it.
