i do my model work out in my garage and during the warmer months i have the garage door open while i am working.
i bet once a week some one walking by asks if i could fix some thing for them. you know like sharpen a lawn mower blade
or like last night a young lady asked if i could fix her dogs leash. i never get money for these jobs but when it snows my drive way gets cleared, some times my grass gets cut and the lady with the dog brought me a plate of home made cookies.  :cartwheel:
it can be a bit of a pain but it all works out in the end and i have  neighbors that take care of me and put up with some of my shenanigans.

 :lolb:

I clear the snow from THEIR driveways.....and mow my own lawn..... ::)

Are your neighbors moving this way? 8)     The cookies sound great!

Seriously......They are good people...and obviously...at 49...I'm not going to make a Octigenarian mow my lawn....and the repairs are something I can do with the help of my 10 year old son...so I get a different set of benefits...and since I've been doing this for 20 years now... I have no one to blame but me on that count. ::)
The Wallaby will wait till evening....got to get back on that SB too.....and get the boat ready for the season...and clean the crap out of the back yard.....and...

The only hope of ever receiving is giving.

One does not give with the hope of receiving, one gives because you want to.  :whoohoo:

Sometimes it can be  :embarassed: embarassing if you cannot return the gift  :-\

This has been one of my distractions since last October; I agreed to help my brother with a 1935 Aermotor 8’ windmill that he had purchased. We retrieved the windmill from a small farm in eastern Oregon. This was a tired and worn old gal; I spent the winter making parts and fitting some of the new ones he purchased from the Windmill guys.

While I was working the gear box and related components he put the new foundation in and installed the well that it will pump from.
After hundreds of hours work today we stood it up and bolted it to the new foundation. After adding the 2 quarts of oil the brake was released and away she went. It is well behaved in the wind and furs nicely.

The first picture is in my shop and I’m on the left and my brother on the right. We had just completed the trial assembly of the wheel after installing the new sail that was missing when we got it and a bunch of the sheet metal clips that were damaged and or broken.

We have just a little more work to install the succor rod and pump and it should be able to pump water all summer.
