Keller Die Filer
« on: April 25, 2013, 12:24:15 AM »
Well made another aquisition off Ebay.  :whoohoo: Found this or a great price. It needs a little clean up and has a little rust build up but runs fine. Does anyone see anything missing on the machine from these photos? Also does anyone have a manual for it? Its a model 1A.

Don,
Wow, good one! Just what I am looking for. I guess I will either build a Martin casting set, or go to my nearest machinery dealer, 80 miles away. He has 6 die filers, in who knows what shape.
Anyone know how the Martin ones work out?
What size files does yours take?

Mosey from looking at the clamping bit, it can take just about any file size up to 1 inch wide. I would say just cut them to length. Of coarse I haven't tried it yet.
But the table hole is just 3/4".

Hi Don

Nice find; looks just like the one that I have. There are two different overarms; the one you have is for holding saw blades and probably long thin files. There is also a work hold down foot that fits in the vertical hole.
The other overarm has a roller to support long files as well as a work hold down foot. The only thing that I have been able to find on these is a one page parts sheet; a Google search should be able to turn this up. I looked on my PC but can't put my finger on it at the moment.

Oops after looking again at your pictures I see that you have both overarms.

Dave thanks for looking, yes I have both arm but not the hold down foot. I can make that pretty easy. Any info you have would help.
Thanks Don

Bill, thanks for looking and hope you can acquire one soon.

Don
Welcome to the die filer club.
Here's the hold down foot on my Oliver. Looks like something similar will work on your Keller.

Stan

One problem with die filers is finding the the files.  Here are two interesting concepts that use commonly available needle files.  It's a German web site but the pictures are self explanatory...

For those of you that want to spend some time making a die filer, Harold Hall made a version as attachment to his Myford7 lathe, see http://homews.co.uk/page475.html

Both Oliver and Victornet have files. I am also using chainsaw files. The clamp on the Oliver holds pretty much anything. I've also used regular and junior hacksaw blades.

Just thought you guys would like to see the Die Filer after it was all cleaned up. It was paint a green color orginally so I tried to match it as close as possible. I haven't made to foot for it yet but it will get done. I have left the belt guard off so you can see all sides. I was trying to post the photos with photobucket but it rotated the images so I hope this way they don't rotate.
