Small Boring Head
« on: April 16, 2013, 11:42:21 PM »
Does anyone know of a boring head with a 3/8" shank to fit my F1?
Yes, Aciera made one, but they are scarcer than eyelashes on a bullfrog, and cost more than you could imagine. I have a nice old Criterion with a 7/16" shank, too big.

I ordered a W12 die from China, and will make some toys after the bullet strikes.
Resolute, huh?

For my BCA I picked up one of the small 30mm boring heads with the detachable shanks and made a shank to suit her:

Well....30mm is almost as small as mine,,,I'm concerned about the length....the Aciera has a very small work envelope.

It would appear at least as long as its diameter.

Mosey-

I'd turn the shank on the Criterion down to 3/8 if it's an integral shank.  Otherwise, I'd do as Jo did and make one.

Dave,
I intend to turn up the shank integral with the head to minimize stickout. When I get to it, I will do 2 of them. Don't hold up your life waiting for me, as it may take a while, and I'm intimidated making something for someone of your skill.

The Criterion is hardened, of course, and too sweet for someone as crude as me to bitch up. Nise idea though. Still too long for the F1, too.
I intend to try to match the one made by Aciera in dimensions, very small.
Nice one, Jo!
