Hi All,

After a small delay for some real work. I finally managed to get the tube plates welded together and marked off for machining.

Best Regards
Bob

Hi Gavin,

The H&M is looking at me but I just can't seem to get the time to get the timing right.

Hi Guys and Dave of course,

A bolt, a bolt, my kingdom for a bloody 5/16" bolt. Aha, found one, next cut up some packing blocks, of course not before a scrounge around to find the right size lump.

Finally the tube plates are mounted and clamped on the mill. I seem to remember a honeymoon that went along similar lines.

Next came the boring job for the furnace which is about 3/4 done.

 Best Regards
 Bob

Look at that, a dirty big bit of steel plate on the milling machine, complete with oxy cut edge. Looks like Bob is busy in the shop. Good to see  :DrinkPint:

Bob,
Nice progress, that is some nice cutting. I had to look several times to see that both plates are on the mill.

I'm pleased to see there was also some packing under the bottom plate otherwise there could have been some nasty scoring on the bed  and some educational words being said :embarassed:.

Bob, Jo makes a good point that big drill looks like the point will nick the table... must be an optical illusion... one of the dings in my table came from a similar setup. :embarassed:

Thanks for the support guys,

Yes, how true, I am sure had that happened I would have broadened your vocabulary by a considerable amount.

Dan

I must admit I was nervous about how close it would come to the table so.....................................I placed a length of 20 swg under the plates and when it moved that was deep enough. As it happens it was just deep enough to give full depth to the hole.

Best Regards
Bob

Edit have added some more drawings as pdf's.

Hi Guys,

Honey do's for floating shelves in the study put the brakes on progress but I did manage to finish boring for the furnace tube.

Phorgot the Photoaparat and my mobilnick is nearly as old as I am so sorry about the crappy pics.

Remembered the Camera  :old:

Finally the tube plates are in the lathe ready for rounding.

Drilling and reaming the tube and stay holes

Chopping off the corners

Ready for the dial indicator

Have a good US labour day weekend.
