Glad to see you're still 'tapping' at this project.  ;D
Sorry to hear about the leeks but you'll get them cooked up right.

BTW Move part of your shop into Yelta and you can pursue two hobbies at the same time.
So long as you can keep one eye on each.

ZEEEEE!

Wot Zee said!

Glad to see you back in the shop. You'll get the leeks sorted, I know it.

Just a wee bit of Buff paint and she'll look great!  Put some skylights in the roof and you'd never know! :lolb:

Having absorbed your advise, It's not too late for me to shallow off the taper and just let it cut out at whatever on a 9/16" dia. bar.  What do you reckon? 0.010" over 3" seems about right to me.

Yes, I'd go with that - the parallel section is, imho, self defeating.

Now, first of all if I remember correctly, there is no sandbagging on the roof or around the entrance of that container. Must not be a CP or mess. Back to the boiler :D. Be sure and give the whole lot about a 350-400 degree F preheat before you go to rolling. Just kinda makes everything relax and be groovy.  :lolb:

After my efforts so far I agree its self defeating.

Ron, Dave and Eric,

Thanks for the support and advise.

Good news Bob, it's hard to get rid of all the drips though - look at Canberra!

It's coming along nice Bob and looking good.

As a complete naive on this subject, why can't the tubes just be welded (or brazed) in like the rest. I assume there is a good answer for this and would be interested to hear it.

That's a difficult, (well for me anyway), question to answer. My tubes are copper in a steel boiler so the 1st thing that springs to mind is the different expansion ratios. The next thing is tube replacement. These tubes can be replaced without damage to the tubeplate. I hope others can offer more reasons.

No 1 reason - it is verboten under the AMBSC (and as far as I am aware) commercial codes.
