I like it Simon!   The vice on my Aciera is OK...but not as rugged at that one...

Dave - not sure rugged is the right word - it's quite tinky - perhaps I should have included a coin in the photo so you could get an impression of size ;-)

Would love an Aciera!

Some more work done on the vice over the weekend, first the setup for milling the square on the end of the main screw;

And the finished screw and nut;

That vise is looking good Simon. Nice job and please put a ruler or coin next to it for size comparison.

Nearly finished, just the jaws, some locating tenons to suit the milling table and maybe some paint to do;

Doesn't look impressed does he;

Great work, Simon.

I think he just looks content to be snapped with such a fine vice. Border Terrier?

Simon that is looking more and more desirable every time I see it   :embarassed:

I had to check the Hemmingway site again for the casting kit.... I wonder how long I will last before the postman finds he is having another heavy parcel to deliver  ::)

Did you just happen to have the dovetail cutter? I was wonderng if I could put my larger of the two shapers into action to cut the taper rather than spend  :o even more money.

Jo, yes had the cutter already - it was an ebay punt that turned out to be really good.  So far it's done good work on the ball turner, the milling vice and next duty will be on a boring head.

Don't know how easy it would be to cut them with a shaper.

Simon,

Really nice job.  I've had the castings for one of these for 30 odd years.  I think you've tempted me to actually make it!

To paint or not to paint - that is the question.

My usual default position is that I bloody hate painting so the 'oiled gun' look is currently favourite, but if I did decide to paint then what is the best approach.  It looks difficult to mask effectively so application by brush of firstly red oxide primer then a top coat of something else - Smoothrite maybe?

All suggestions greatfully received,

Simon.
