1 Ton or 2?
« on: March 15, 2013, 04:13:48 PM »
Been thinking that a small arbor press would be useful for stamping numbers etc into steel or alloy parts etc. Whadoyareckon, 1 or 2 ton? Anyone have experience of these things?

You can do 1 ton work on a 2 ton press but not the other way around.
More depends on your budget and room.

Space is at a premium at the moment. Can the 1 ton unit press say 4mm numbers into mild steel is the question?

Are you going to use like the single number stamps or what?  If so, a good blow with a hammer is far better than an arbor press for that.

If space is tight a hammer might be the way to go.
What about etching?

Never hurts to have one on hand, especially if you found a good one for a reasonable price used. I still think though that for stamping letters/numbers a good hammer blow is the best option.  You will find plenty of other uses for the arbor press I am sure :)

I agree with one addition, a staking tool; so that the numbers are hammered in the right spot on the workpiece.
